MILWAUKEE MAYOR TOM BARRETT TO SPEAK AT WISCONSIN FARMERS UNION CONVENTION
Chippewa Falls, Wis. (January 28, 2010) - Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, a candidate for Governor, will speak at the Wisconsin Farmers Union 79th Annual Convention in Eau Claire on Saturday, February 6, President Doug Caruso announced today.
“We are pleased that Mayor Barrett accepted our invitation to speak to farmers and others interested in rural Wisconsin about his vision for Wisconsin’s future,” Caruso said. Gubernatorial candidates Scott Walker, Milwaukee County Executive, and former Congressman Mark Neumann were also invited to speak, Caruso said, but declined.
Barrett joins a line-up of convention speakers that includes U.S. Department of Agriculture Under Secretary Dallas Tonsager, U.S. Senator Russ Feingold, National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson and Caruso. The convention features sessions on opportunities for farmers and rural America in a clean energy economy and Wisconsin’s new Working Lands Initiative. Delegates representing Farmers Union members in 63 counties will also adopt policy on a wide array of issues affecting farmers and rural Wisconsin at the convention.
The convention, open to Farmers Union members and the public, is February 6-7 at the Plaza Hotel & Suites in Eau Claire. Interested citizens can obtain more information and register by visiting the organization’s website at wisconsinfarmersunion.com.
